About Merel

Hi! My name is Merel Revet and  I am the face behind travelingblackbird.com.

Literally translated to English, my name means Blackbird. And I love to travel, so that’s why I chose the name travelingblackbird.com. On this blog you will find my travel tips, personal travel experiences and occasionally some lifestyle blogs.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved writing and visiting places. I have been keeping a journal since I was 7 years old (I still have it) and I started writing stories around the same age. My first book was published when I was thirteen and secretly, I daydream about writing another book.

After high school, I did a high school year in America, worked one summer at a campsite in France and was a part-time Parisienne for five and a half years. (I had a French boyfriend and lived in Paris for about a year and a half. And went there quite often for a weekend or several weeks/months). That explains the amount of Paris blogs 😉 .

I really enjoy travelling and I am beyond excited to share my experiences and travel tips. To inspire you to travel as well and help you plan a trip to beautiful destinations.

Since July 2023 I live in a village in Twente. A new environment for me, so exploring my neighbourhood feels like traveling as well.

Right now I am in South-East Asia for a solo backpack trip of three months. A trip that I’ve been dreaming about for years. And now it’s my reality.

I have studied journalism and worked as a content marketer in the travel industry, (a camping company to be exact). I also write blogs for both my own website and for others. (If you are looking for a freelance writer, be sure to contact me).
